Can't I Am Napping - Design Team Mondays!

Hi Folks, it’s Jenny here, thanks for stopping by! For my card today, I totally wanted to try and mimic the covers of the Twilight Saga books - do you know the ones I mean - with the read, black and white covers?

To start off with, I took a panel of bright white cardstock, and stamped the main Can’t sentiment from the Can’t Sentiments set in Versafine Onyx Black ink. I added a few splatters using the ink and a waterbrush.

I stamped the “I am napping” sentiment from the set in red ink, onto light grey cardstock and trimmed it out, then popped it up on a foam strip.

For the rose, I stamped the Sketched Floral Background stamp in embossing ink onto watercolor cardstock, and then heat embossed in WOW! Primary Pink Robin embossing powder, which is a very dark pinky-red embossing powder.

I watercolored the rose first using using some red ink to lay down a base color. I then used Nuvo Shimmer Powders in Cherry Bomb and Violet Brocade to add shimmer and highlights - I was trying to capture that pinky-red of a real life rose, with the velvety sheen you get on roses. I added some shadows with watered down Distress Ink in Black Soot. I also added some Black Soot round the edges with an ink blending tool for dimension.

I fussy cut out the rose and then adhered it directly over the T of the Can’t, just peeping over the edge, so that it looked like a rose stem.

As a finishing touch I added a few black sequins for subtle shine.

Hope you like it! See you again next month!

Jenny
